12 Step Programs

12 step programs

What are 12 Step Programs?

Most people have heard of 12 step programs, and some people may have even been to a meeting or two, but not many people know what they are actually all about.

12 step programs are a means to not only get sober or clean, but to uncover why a person drinks or uses excessively. In 12 step programs, you are surrounded by a community of like-minded people, with similar struggles. Through attending 12 step meetings, and working the 12 steps with a sponsor, people attain long-term sobriety, and go on to lead happy, normal and successful lives.

12 step programs exist across the world, and there are likely 12 step meetings close to where you live. There are no fees or requirements to attend a 12 step meeting, besides having a desire to not drink or use.

Difference between 12 Step Programs and Outpatient Treatment

12 step programs and outpatient programs are both a means to get sober and find recovery. Outpatient programs like the ones offered by Lionrock Recovery pair you with a trained addictions counselor where 12 step meetings are led by volunteers. In an outpatient program clients are go through an individual assessment and in partnership with their counselor come up with a treatment plan that covers goals that address problem areas in their life and target dates to complete those goals. Lionrock outpatient programs have a client to counselor ratio of no more than 5 to 1. 12 Step meetings can be any number of people. Of course 12 Step Programs are free with the exception of a requested donation.

12 Step Programs are Safe and Effective

When people set out to accomplish any goal, setting small, obtainable goals is a proven method for success. And when it comes to 12 Step Programs to treat substance abuse, people have experienced success for decades. Key tenets of the program include: admitting that one cannot control one’s addiction or compulsion; recognizing a higher power that can give strength; examining past errors with the help of a sponsor; making amends for these errors; learning to live a new life with a new code of behavior; and helping others who suffer from the same addictions or compulsions. To learn more, please contact us.

Lionrock Recovery outpatient programs start at $388 per month which goes to cover the cost of a certified addictions counselor and the technology needed to run video conferences.
