IS MY TREATMENT AT LIONROCK CONFIDENTIAL?

Yes. Your privacy is both guaranteed by law (see our consent forms for details) and our priority. From the moment you first interact with us through when you join other Lionrock alumni, we protect your identity and communications at every step of the process. Of course, to benefit from any treatment program, clients must share their thoughts and feelings with their counselors and group session members. But how much you share is up to you.

CAN ANYONE ELSE SEE ME WHEN I’M IN A GROUP SESSION?

The only people who can see you are the other Lionrock clients in your group and your Lionrock counselor. Lionrock clients often develop tight bonds through their shared experience in group sessions together, and of course, your Lionrock counselor needs to get to know you and vice-versa. These real connections are only possible if your group can all see each other.

DO I HAVE TO USE MY REAL NAME IN GROUP SESSIONS?

We encourage you to use just your first name and last name initial, or some nickname that you choose.

HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE NO ONE ELSE SEES MY VIDEO SESSIONS?

Lionrock’s video conference system is encrypted using 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), the global standard for data encryption. This is the same level of protection used for all major commerce online, including retail and financial transactions. This encryption ensures that even if someone were able to intercept video from a therapy session, they would be unable to see or hear it. Lionrock does not record therapy sessions.

HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE I DON’T KNOW OTHER PEOPLE IN MY GROUP SESSIONS?

Lionrock clients come from many states and places outside the U.S. One of the privacy advantages of online treatment, compared to treatment near where you live, is that Lionrock can avoid putting clients who live near each other in the same group. If we believe that clients may know each other for any reason, we will assign them to different groups.

CAN SOMEONE ELSE BE IN THE ROOM WHEN I’M DOING A GROUP SESSION?

No. As a Lionrock client, you also have a responsibility to keep confidential what you see and hear in group. Lionrock clients agree to be legally-bound to keep their home space and computer equipment safe for the entire group. In some cases, for example when a Lionrock client does an individual therapy session in which having family participation may be judged to be therapeutic by the Lionrock counselor, special permission to bring in someone else may be granted.

HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE NO ONE SEES EMAIL COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN ME AND MY COUNSELORS?

Lionrock clients and counselors communicate using Lionrock’s HIPAA-compliant email system. Normal email is not encrypted and so not private (most people do not know this), but Lionrock’s email system is encrypted and certified HIPAA-compliant. HIPAA is a U.S. privacy law that sets standards for the confidential handling of healthcare information. Learn more here.

ARE YOU HIPAA-COMPLIANT?

Yes. All Lionrock client information is handled in systems which are password-protected, encrypted, or both. Lionrock client health information is transmitted only over encrypted communications connections, and the video streams in Lionrock video conferences are encrypted to the global standard for security, 128-bit AES. See Lionrock’s information system’s HIPAA compliance certification here. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. The Joint Commission awarded Lionrock their Gold Seal of Approval in 2012, only the third online addiction treatment program to be so honored.
